“Man's conscious state is awareness of body and breath”
A symbol of love and eternity like a Christmas wreath
Breathing is fundamental to life, an effortless act
The brain influences it, and body reacts
The physical and psychological phenomenon unfolds
Within the time and space of the living world
Its multiple dimensions convey meaning, and complexity,
Rhythm with emotions, thoughts and life's sustainability
The bellows of lungs and diaphragm go on
Playing the life's symphony like an accordion
The wind-pipe and the numerous minute air-sacs
Transporting oxygen and nutrition to all nook and recess
Trillion of cells, breathe, throwing the toxins out
Keeps the life's clock ticking, and stout
Disregarding the laws of health bring in the sickness
When addiction to smoking comes as a weakness
The pleasure of moments changing life forever
The curtains drawn, windows closed for air
Pollutants in atmosphere, be the gases or the dust
Cooking bio-fuel and ignorance about are the worst
Swelling of inner linings, 'cause of inflammation
Chronicity clogs the tubes, air-sacs deformation
Spouse and children, and colleagues, passively smoke
Unaware of the situation, later they do choke
Cough with flegm, ignored usually until it is grown
Changing the chemistry, and synchronicity tumbles down
Fear clutches at one's throat like a terrible beast
And suddenly it becomes difficult to breathe
Minimum effort make the breathing stilted
Progresses to cause agony, loss of strength, panic and guilt
Intensified fear and Insecurity creeps in, affecting DALYS
When diagnosed COAD, an asthma's ally
Spirometry diagnoses and estimates bronchodilator response
Pulse–oxymeter measures need for oxygen at once
Air hunger needs oxygen, and nebulization
Bronchodilators and pulmonologist's consultation
In long term, may affect heart, brain and nerves
Arrhythmias, heart failure and dwindling oxygen reserves
Prevention is always better than cure
Smoking cessations and reducing exposure
Segregating industrial area, reducing vehicular emission,
Better housing, planting trees, bring in prolonged remissions.
